More Filipinos want evidence, not public opinion on impeachment vote, says survey

MANILA, Philippines — More Filipinos want senator-judges in Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial to vote based on evidence and not public opinion, according to a survey.

Based on the findings of Momentum Research’s non-commissioned survey conducted from Aug. 18-23, 2026, 38.6 percent of Filipino adults nationwide leaned toward the strength of evidence presented, up from 36.3 percent in July. There was a six percentage-point decline in the number of Filipino adults who preferred senator-judges to decide based on public opinion.

Meanwhile, about a tenth of Filipino adults (10.6 percent) are either unsure or refuse to answer.

Gen Zs want evidence

Across generations, Gen Z or those aged between 14-29 years old in 2026 show the strongest preference for evidence-based votes in Duterte’s impeachment trial with 48.5 percent. Next are the millennials at 37.6 percent and Gen X at 34.2 percent.

Meanwhile, 43.8 percent of baby boomers and the silent generation likely prefer senator-judges who will vote based on public opinion compared to the 24.9 percent who prefer evidence.
