More infrastructure for Penampang pledge: Ewon

PENAMPANG: Local residents will get the benefit from the State Government’s economic and industrial development initiatives especially focusing on the infrastructure and public facilities in Penampang, said Deputy Chief Minister III and Industrial, Entrepreneurship, and Transportation Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick (pic).

Ewon, who is also Penampang Member of Parliament (MP), said that development efforts in the district should address local residents’ needs while also providing opportunities for them to benefit from the State Government’s economic and industrial initiatives.

He said this when met by the media after officiating the Penampang Lantern Carnival 2026, at Buhavan Square, Donggongon, here on Saturday.

Ewon said that he would continue to focus on the infrastructure and public facilities required in Penampang as part of his efforts to support the district’s growth.

He also stressed the importance of ensuring that local communities benefit from the region’s economic and industrial development.

“We will continue to focus on Penampang’s infrastructure and public facilities, while ensuring that local residents benefit from the State Government’s economic and industrial development initiatives,” he said.

Ewon said that the efforts were also being made to increase the participation of Sabahan-based businesses in the state’s industrial development.

“We want to increase the participation of local companies in Sabah in the development of industries,” he said.

He added that the State Government was looking into ways to reduce the costs that local businesses face, such as logistics fees, in order to encourage their participation in economic activities.

“We are looking at how we can reduce the cost, including port surcharge and storage charges, faced by our local companies,” he said.

The Penampang Lantern Carnival 2026 was jointly organised by the Penampang Parliamentary Service Centre, Persatuan Kebajikan Kapitan Cina Sabah and Persatuan Kebajikan Cakna Masyarakat Tiong Hwa Penampang, with an allocation of RM 100,000.
