PENAMPANG: Sedco Communications Sdn Bhd (Scomm) has the potential to play a greater role in expanding Sabah’s digital infrastructure through partnerships with telecommunications providers, property owners and the private sector, said Deputy Chief Minister III Datuk Ewon Benedick.
He said Scomm, as a State Government-linked entity under the Sedco Group, could help translate the State’s development direction into telecommunications facilities benefiting the public and businesses, including fibre-optic networks, improved indoor coverage and telecommunications infrastructure.
Ewon said Scomm'ss collaborations with Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC), ITCC Penampang, Hyatt and U Mobile demonstrated how government-linked companies and industry partners could work together to improve connectivity at key locations.
He said stronger digital infrastructure was also in line with the Sabah Maju Jaya 2.0 (SMJ 2.0) focus on digitalisation and artificial intelligence, adding that better connectivity should also benefit small and medium enterprises through cashless payments, online marketing and cloud applications.
Ewon said the collaborations could serve as a basis for expanding digital facilities to more districts and communities, while narrowing the connectivity gap and creating opportunities for local engineers, technicians, contractors and technology companies.
