Moscow region hit by drone blitz as Russian missiles kill 10 in Ukrainian village

  • Ukrainian forces executed one of their largest long-range aerial assaults on Russia to date, deploying nearly 800 domestically produced drones across multiple regions, including Moscow and annexed Crimea.
  • Russian air defences intercepted 791 Ukrainian drones overnight, including 180 over the Moscow region, resulting in at least six injuries across surrounding districts and minor fire damage to a warehouse belonging to retailer Wildberries.
  • A Russian missile strike targeted the village of Pechenihy in Ukraine’s north-eastern Kharkiv region, killing at least 10 civilians, injuring 17 others, and demolishing homes, a post office, and several vehicles.
  • Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the Pechenihy strike as a brutal attack on civilians and pledged retaliation, while additional Russian bombardments in the Sumy region killed three people.
  • The escalating aerial bombardment comes as fighting along the 1,250-kilometre front line remains deadlocked, with Kyiv aiming to force Russian President Vladimir Putin into peace negotiations while Moscow state media largely suppressed news of the drone strikes.
