The car rolled backwards and fell nearly 200 feet into a gorge.

A road accident on the Rohtang route in Himachal Pradesh’s Lahaul-Spiti district claimed the lives of a woman and her 11-month-old son, while another woman sustained injuries after a tourist vehicle plunged into a deep gorge on Wednesday.

The accident occurred near Dhara Waterfall, around four kilometres from Koksar, when a group of tourists travelling from Manali towards Rohtang Pass via the Atal Tunnel stopped to enjoy the scenic surroundings. According to officials, the driver and other passengers had stepped out of the vehicle to admire the natural landscape, while two women and a child remained inside the car.

Suddenly, the vehicle started to roll backward on the slope and fell nearly 200 feet into a gorge. Eyewitnesses reported that the car slipped in reverse gear before disappearing into the ravine. Local residents immediately launched rescue efforts.

The victims were identified as Tanu Kumari (26), wife of Deepak Kumar Singh, and her 11-month-old son Daksh Kumar Singh. Both were residents of Siyaram Enclave in Gurugram, Haryana. They were rushed to Manali Hospital, where doctors declared them dead on arrival.

Another passenger, Savita Devi (52), wife of Manoj Singh, and a resident of Vaishali district in Bihar, suffered injuries and is undergoing treatment at the Civil Hospital in Manali.

Police and administrative teams reached the scene shortly after the accident. The police have registered an FIR and an investigation is under way.
