Kota Kinabalu: The mother of Zara Qairina Mahathir told the Coroner’s Court that she lodged a police report against a Facebook account after its owner allegedly likened her daughter’s case to a story in *Zootopia*.
Noraidah Lamat, 46, said she did not personally know the individual identified as Dr Naim, whose name later went viral on Facebook, but was told he was a doctor serving at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
She said she became shocked when he allegedly likened Zara’s case to the *Zootopia* story, prompting her and her sister-in-law, Nursyirah, to lodge a report at the Sipitang District Police Headquarters.
Noraidah said she was concerned that the Facebook user, whom she regarded as influential based on screenshots of his posts shown to her by others, could create and spread a public narrative that might tarnish her reputation, interfere with police investigations and pre-empt the court.
She said some comments on the posts were offensive and included remarks questioning her mental health and making disparaging comments about her as Zara’s mother, while she also alleged that confidential information from Zara’s diary had been conveyed to certain social media users.
