Kota Kinabalu: Warisan should acknowledge weaknesses in its previous administration before questioning the Sabah Government over findings in the Auditor-General’s Report (LKAN) on the implementation of the Pan Borneo Highway Sabah project, said Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (PGRS) Kinabatangan division pro-tem Information Chief Aksyah Nasrah (pic).
He said those speaking about accountability should acknowledge past mistakes and weaknesses instead of selectively highlighting issues, in response to a statement by Warisan Supreme Council member Chen Ket Chuin, or KC, who questioned delays in the project and sought clarification on delayed or sick packages, contractors, consultants, payments and action taken.
Aksyah said the LKAN had highlighted failures, delays and shortcomings in project planning that had persisted for more than 10 to 11 years since it was first planned in 2015, including during the period Warisan governed Sabah.
He claimed the decision by the previous government to terminate the Project Delivery Partner (PDP) model in September 2019 had affected the project’s implementation, while saying the current administration through the Ministry of Works (KKR) and Sabah Public Works Department had been transparent in presenting the status of 35 Phase 1 packages and taking remedial measures for delayed packages.
Aksyah said the current administration had also restructured procurement, with Letters of Acceptance (SST) issued to 13 local contractors in October 2024 to undertake the remaining 19 work packages under Phase 1B worth RM13.989 billion, adding that accountability required all parties to acknowledge past mistakes rather than merely pointing fingers at those working to address the problems.
