GEORGE TOWN: Police have arrested a man suspected of obstructing the path of an ambulance responding to an emergency at Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah in Sungai Tiram, near here, in an incident that went viral on social media.

Barat Daya district police chief ACP Anuwal Ab Wahab said police detected a 44-second video uploaded to the ‘MRCS Penang’ TikTok account today, showing a motorcyclist blocking the ambulance’s path.

“Following the viral video, police managed to track down and arrest the man today. The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless and inconsiderate driving,” he said in a statement.

He said investigations were ongoing and advised road users to comply with traffic regulations and give way to emergency vehicles, adding that obstructing emergency vehicles could hamper life-saving efforts.

The public was also advised against speculating about the case, as it could interfere with police investigations.
