
A MAN was killed early Tuesday morning after his motorcycle struck a horse that darted across the road at Jalan Sempang Bukit Kuda, Merlimau.
The victim, identified as Rajak Ismail, 59, who worked as a cleaner at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Jasin, was pronounced dead at the scene following the 7.10am crash.
Acting Jasin District Police Chief, Deputy Superintendent Nor Azlinda Nordin, said preliminary investigations revealed that the victim had been travelling from Serkam towards Semujuk on his Yamaha Y16ZR motorcycle.
“Upon reaching the scene, the motorcycle is believed to have collided with an animal that suddenly crossed from the left side of the road.
“As a result of the impact, the victim sustained severe injuries and was confirmed dead at the scene,” she said in a statement on Tuesday.
The victim’s body was later sent to the Forensic Unit of Jasin Hospital for a post-mortem examination before being claimed by his family.
Nor Azlinda added that there were no closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in the area, but police had traced and interviewed the horse’s owner to assist in the investigation.
Members of the public with information about the incident are urged to contact the investigating officer, Inspector Ahmad Aqil Yusoff, at 013-9393747 to assist in the case.
