Motorcyclist killed in Kota Belud

KOTA BELUD: A 63-year-old man was killed when his motorcycle collided with a 10-tonne lorry along Jalan Kudat Bypass near the Lebak Moyoh traffic lights, here, Tuesday.

The fatal accident occurred at about 8am, with the victim pronounced dead at the scene due to severe injuries sustained in the crash.

Kota Belud District Police Chief Supt Shahrudin Mat Husain said preliminary investigations revealed that the lorry, driven by a 60-year-old man, was making a turn from the left lane to the right when it hit the motorcycle travelling ahead.

Medical officers from Kota Belud Hospital who arrived at the scene confirmed his death,” Shahrudin said.

The victim’s body has been transported to the Forensic Unit at the Kota Belud Hospital for further procedures.

Police urged the public to refrain from speculation and to come forward with any relevant information.

Shahrudin also reminded road users to exercise caution while driving, comply with traffic regulations and ensure their vehicles are in good condition before travelling.
