KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysian government, through the Federal Land Board, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Sabah Parks for the small-scale leasing of the Sabah Fire and Rescue Operations Centre to enhance the rescue and firefighting efficiency of the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department, especially for the Mount Kinabalu search and rescue team operations.

The Fire and Rescue Department director-general, Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Mohamad, said the initiative provides a good platform for the Mount Kinabalu search and rescue team, especially during mountaineering activities at Mount Kinabalu, and will also help boost the state’s economy, especially those related to adventure tourism.

“Thankfully, the ‘Gunting Lagadan’ survived the disaster and was granted to us for use. This lease agreement is vital as it allows us to use department funds to renovate, upgrade and make these facilities available exclusively to our team.”
