RANAU: Mount Kinabalu is open to climbers despite the incident where a torrential stream formed on the climbing route on Tuesday.

The river-like incident on Kinabalu from 5.50am until 7am at Km 7.2, near the Sayat-Sayat Check Point, was recorded by a climber and went viral on social media.

Panalaban Sub-Station Supt Julaimin Bin Kamin said all climbers are subject to climbing safety SOP and the Park Enactment.

Safety measures are taken to ensure the wellbeing of climbers, he said. They apply to both extraordinary and normal times.
