KOTA KINABALU: Mount Kinabalu has etched another milestone with the installation of Malaysia’s highest Kiblat direction monument, officially recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR).

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor announced the recognition during a ceremony here on Monday, calling it a blend of astronomy, technology, and faith.

Installed at KM8 of the mountain at 3,930.4 metres above sea level, the monument provides Muslim climbers with an accurate direction for prayer in extreme environments.

Hajiji said the collaboration between agencies such as the Sabah Mufti Office, Sabah Parks, JUPEM, and JAKIM reflected how knowledge, technology, and faith can create meaningful achievements.

He added that the monument strengthens Sabah’s standing as a halal and Muslim-friendly destination, symbolising not only spiritual guidance but also the state’s direction towards progress under Sabah Maju Jaya.
