KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Parks is reviewing additional safety measures following recent high-altitude fatalities on Mount Kinabalu, including mandatory stamina training, The Star reported.
Its director, Dr Maklarin Lakim, said the agency is assessing the proposal's feasibility, considering its potential impact on climbers and park operations.
The review follows a suggestion by Tourism, Culture, and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Christina Liew, who proposed stricter requirements such as stamina training and an age limit for climbers.
Liew confirmed that her ministry has met with the family of a British climber who recently died and has requested a detailed investigation into the incident.
Sabah Parks is currently gathering data and conducting an analysis before presenting its findings to Liew, with further discussions expected on measures to prevent future fatalities.
