LABUAN: MP Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman (pic) thanked the Sabah Islamic Religious Council (Muis) and Labuan Corporation (LC) for postponing the demolition of squatter houses at Kg Gersik/Saguking till Feb 28 next year, describing it as an “act of humanity.”
“This will enable some 3,000 affected to find alternative homes,” he said.
He said according to LC findings, 60pc of the residents in the area were IMM13 or other document holders and most of the houses did not belong to them but rented out to them by locals.
He noted that the area had a few makeshift structures in the earlier years but swelled to hundreds of illegal houses.
“They have overstayed on the land that did not belong to them and should not complain further.”
Suhaili added that as MP he had done his part by helping to delay the demolition and the residents should cooperate with Muis and LC.
