PUTRAJAYA - Members of parliament (MPs) have the right to withdraw their support if they are dissatisfied with the current government administration.

Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said this action is not against the law.

"In my opinion, if the government is not governing well enough, the party members should overthrow the government and elect a new one, just like what happenned when Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin became prime minister," he said.

"Previously, Umno was dissatisfied so they withdrew their support for the coalition and Muhyiddin was removed from his position. He was then replaced by an Umno leader," he said in a press conference at the Perdana Leadership Foundation here today.

He said this when asked if he was confident that the Unity Government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim could govern until the end of its term.

Meanwhile, on his opinion as to whether the government is capable of solving the Malays' problems, Dr Mahathir said; "I am not convinced at all because he (Anwar) thinks that there is no specific problem faced by the Malays. All problems are shared together as a multiracial country."
