THE Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) Quezon Avenue Station has undergone significant improvements aimed at better commuter comfort and passenger flow, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said Thursday.
Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez personally assessed the rehabilitation works, noting marked improvements in cleanliness, ventilation and overall space.
The upgraded facility now features wider passenger areas, larger and clearer wayfinding signage, refurbished restrooms and platform window louvers designed to enhance airflow.
“Here in the new structure at Quezon Ave. Station, it’s even more beautiful now — more airy, spacious and clean,” Lopez said, reiterating the directive to keep MRT-3 stations safe and convenient for the riding public.
He added that the improvements are intended to make commuting more efficient, allowing passengers to move more easily, locate exits quickly, pay fares faster and experience a more comfortable journey.
Commuters have begun noticing the changes, describing the station as more organized, better ventilated and cleaner compared to its previous condition.
Before proceeding to the Quezon Avenue Station, Lopez took public transport himself, commuting from Commonwealth Avenue to Kamuning in Quezon City.
He also inspected the EDSA Busway Kamuning Station to observe commuter conditions firsthand and assess on-the-ground operations.
The DOTr said the upgrades form part of a wider rehabilitation program for MRT-3, which aims to improve service quality and encourage more commuters — including private vehicle users — to shift to mass transit, particularly as fuel prices continue to rise.
The rehabilitation initiative is backed by a loan agreement signed with Japan earlier this year. The agreement provides up to P8.15 billion in funding, with a 0.8 percent annual interest rate payable over 40 years.
Officials said the modernization efforts will continue across other MRT-3 stations as the government seeks to raise standards in Metro Manila’s public transportation system.
