Kota Kinabalu: The Malaysian Trade Union Congress Sabah Division (MTUC Sabah) expressed its full support to the statement made by Deputy Minister of Human Resources Mustapha Sakmud regarding the amendment of the Sabah Labour Ordinance (SLO) (Chapter 67).
It’s Secretary, Engrit Liaw said MTUC Sabah urged that the SLO amendment be expedited. “It is now the middle of 2023 and the amendment has been long overdue. With the amendment of several important articles, the workers in Sabah will enjoy the same benefits under the 1955 Labor Act that their friends in the Peninsula enjoy.
“Taking note of the recent ‘paternity leave’ case involving a worker who lost his wife a few days after giving birth, it is a clear indicator that the need for SLO is immediate as is the provision for maternity leave and so on. The need for amendments to the benefits is very important considering the need to change the current work culture,” he said.
