Muda president Amira Aisya Abd Aziz stated that the activists had courageously spoken out against what she described as the “barah rasuah” (cancer of corruption).

PETALING JAYA: Muda has slammed the arrest of three activists following an anti-corruption demonstration, calling for their immediate release and the cessation of all police investigations into the matter.

In an official statement, Muda president Amira Aisya Abd Aziz stated that the activists had courageously spoken out against what she described as the “barah rasuah” (cancer of corruption).

She emphasised that exercising one’s right to voice opposition against alleged corruption should not be criminalised.

“The real crime is continuing to damage the country’s image by allowing Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki to remain in power despite multiple allegations of misconduct,” she said.

Amira also criticised what she termed “selective enforcement,” suggesting it raised serious questions regarding the consistency of legal proceedings.

She questioned why Azam had not been subjected to arrest despite the gravity of the allegations, asserting that the matter warrants a full, transparent investigation to ensure accountability.

“I stand in solidarity with the detained activists and human rights defenders,” she stated.

Amira urged the government to focus its efforts on tackling systemic corruption rather than targeting grassroots voices advocating for reform.

The three protesters were detained yesterday after staging a demonstration during a public address by Azam at the Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur.

The individuals were observed holding placards bearing the slogan “Arrest Azam Baki,” while at least one protester was heard chanting the same demand.

They were apprehended by auxiliary police at the venue before being transported to the Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters at 4.30pm.
