
Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Islamic Religious Council’s (Muis) zakat (tithe) collection increased by 11 per cent, said Auditor-General Datuk Wan Suraya Wan Mohd Radzi.
She said the collection in 2022 amounted to RM132.68 million, an increase of 11 per cent compared to RM119.5 million in 2021.
According to her, as much as RM120.51 million (90.8pc) of the total collection in 2022 was distributed to zakat recipients, with the largest recipient being Hak Fakir, which amounted to RM53.55 million or 44.4 per cent.
She said this after chairing the Muis Financial Statement Audit Closing Meeting for the financial year ending December 31, 2022, here.

Read more At the event, Wan Suraya also congratulated Muis on the increase in zakat collection and suggested that Muis improve its financial management governance in line with financial regulations in accordance with Islamic law to increase the confidence of zakat payers in the State.
The event also saw the presentation ceremony of the Auditor General’s Certificate for the Muis Financial Statements for the financial year ending December 31, 2022 to State Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif on behalf of Muis and the State Government.
