
RANAU: Three local men were recently arrested by police and remanded for several days each in three separate incidents of theft and drug possession across the district recently.
In the first incident, a 47-year-old man was remanded for four days to assist in an investigation into a theft case in Kg Karanaan involving items worth RM2,380.
The remand order, also issued by the Ranau Magistrate’s Court, is effective from June 11 to June 14, 2026.
The investigation into this incident falls under Section 379 of the Penal Code, which addresses theft.
The case originated from a report filed by a 42-year-old farmer on June 9, 2026. He reported that several items, including a gasoline knapsack sprayer, had been stolen from his garage by his own elder brother.
Following the report, IPD Ranau launched an investigation and the suspect was arrested on June 9, 2026, in Kg Karanaan. During the investigation, a gasoline knapsack sprayer, believed to be one of the stolen items, was recovered.
In a separate development, a 21-year-old local man has been remanded for seven days in connection with a housebreaking and theft case that occurred in Kg Sinarut Lama.
The remand order, issued by the Magistrate’s Court, allows the police to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.
The incident was reported by a 53-year-old farmer, on June 10, 2026. According to the police report, the complainant, who acted upon his barking dog, discovered an unknown male that was in the middle of breaking into his house and reaching for a bag pouch inside the house.
During the incident, the complainant confronted the individual as he was attempting to flee the scene but was managed to be apprehended by the complainant himself.
The investigation is being conducted under Section 457/511 of the Penal Code for housebreaking and attempted theft. The remand, effective from June 11 to June 17, 2026, will facilitate further investigative steps, including gathering information, recording statements, and obtaining fingerprints.
Meanwhile, a 25-year-old unemployed man has been remanded for four days to assist in a drug-related investigation following an operation by the Ranau District Police Headquarters (IPD Ranau).
The remand order, which runs from June 11 to June 14, 2026, was granted by the Ranau Magistrate’s Court. The case is being investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which pertains to the possession of dangerous drugs.
According to police records, the suspect was apprehended on June 9, 2026, at approximately 1.40 PM during an “Ops Tapis” operation conducted by the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division of IPD Ranau. The arrest took place at a residence in Kampung Dumpiring, Kundasang.
During the operation, the suspect was allegedly found in possession of a transparent plastic packet containing a crystalline substance suspected to be syabu (methamphetamine). The suspected drug had a gross weight of approximately 0.12 grams.
The remand application was submitted by the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division of IPD Ranau to facilitate several key investigative steps.
These include sending the seized substance to the Chemistry Department for analysis, recording statements from the suspect and witnesses, and collecting intelligence regarding the suspect’s potential associates.
