Police have detained two suspects following a jewellery store robbery in central Munich and a dramatic car chase involving around 40 patrol cars and a helicopter.

A third man was also taken into custody, though investigators are still examining whether he was involved in the crime on Wednesday, a police spokesman said.

The suspects allegedly broke into a jewellery store that is not identifiable as such from the outside and made off with goods worth several hundred thousand euros, according to police.

Investigators seized evidence from the suspects' vehicle, though the spokesman did not initially confirm whether it included the stolen items.

The men remain in custody and are due to appear before an investigating judge on Thursday.

The store, which has no display window and appears unremarkable from the street, specializes in luxury watches. No one was injured in the robbery, police said.
