RTD suspends MyEG, Zetrix over RM314m in unremitted revenue

PUTRAJAYA: The Transport Ministry has suspended My E.G. Sdn Bhd (MyEG) and Zetrix AI Bhd as Road Transport Department (RTD) collection agents effective today after the companies failed to remit RM314 million in government revenue accumulated since May.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook clarified that the unremitted funds accumulated between May 19 and Sept 30 this year, dismissing reports that the government had allowed a three-year backlog to build up before taking action.

He rejected suggestions that the government had turned a blind eye to the matter, saying the ministry had issued 35 reminder notices and held four engagement sessions with the companies and key stakeholders, including the Finance Ministry, before suspending their services.

Loke said the government had given the companies sufficient opportunities to settle the outstanding amount but had reached a point where further patience was no longer possible.

“We have given them sufficient attention. As I said, 35 reminders have been given. We have reached this point, and they have to stop the entire operation. They should pay immediately.

“There were temporary arrears before May, but after we issued reminder notices, they settled them.

“The unpaid RM314 million is strictly from May this year, just a few months ago,” he told reporters at a press conference at the ministry here today.

He said the government had given the companies multiple opportunities to settle the outstanding amount, including after they submitted a post-dated cheque for RM231 million on Aug 21 to cover the balance owed at the time.

However, when the cheque was presented on Sept 30, the bank did not process it following instructions from the company, leaving the ministry with no choice but to suspend the services, he said.

MyEG has served as an RTD collection agent since 2000, handling motor vehicle licence renewals, vehicle ownership transfers, Malaysian driving licence services and electronic summons payments.

Under their contractual obligations, the companies are required to remit government collections within one working day of a transaction, known as T+1.

Loke emphasised that the revenue collected through the platforms belonged to the government.

“They are merely collection agents. This is not their money. This is money paid by taxpayers and vehicle owners that they collect on behalf of RTD,” he said.

The government will initiate civil and other legal action to recover the outstanding sum, together with applicable late-payment interest, he added.

Despite the suspension, Loke assured motorists that transactions already completed through the platforms would not be affected, with processed licences and renewals remaining valid.

RTD has redirected affected services to alternative channels, including the MyJPJ app, its public portal, physical counters and self-service kiosks.

Loke said any reinstatement of MyEG and Zetrix AI would only be considered after the entire outstanding balance had been settled.

Even then, he said, future operations could be subject to stricter conditions, including requiring payments to be credited directly into the government’s main account rather than being held by intermediaries.

“The first precondition is that all outstanding (amounts) must be settled before any reopening,” he said.

He added that market liberalisation measures implemented over the past two years, including allowing 85 driving institutes to conduct computerised KPP01 theory tests, had enabled the government to act against the companies without disrupting essential public services.

Loke said the government’s broader strategy remained to expand the MyJPJ app and encourage more users to transact directly with RTD, gradually reducing reliance on third-party agents.
