A tense situation prevailed for the past three days outside the postmortem house in the mysterious death case of 24-year-old Bobby, whose body was found in the fields of Nanhera village in the Indri block. Family members, villagers and members of his community have refused to take custody of the body even after the postmortem examination and have announced that the cremation will not take place until the police give a clear and satisfactory explanation regarding the cause of death.

Family members rejected the police claim that the body was burnt due to exposure to sunlight and alleged that acid had been used instead. On the demand of the family members, the police have now sent the body to PGI Chandigarh for a second postmortem examination.

Bobby had left his home around 7:30 am on May 25, informing his mother that he would return shortly. At around 12 pm, Bobby informed family members that he would return home soon, but after that his phone was switched off, a family member said.

When Bobby did not return home till late at night and his phone remained unreachable, the family became worried. The next day, when the family again tried calling him, a police official answered the phone and informed them that a body had been found in the fields of Nanhera village. The family rushed to the spot where Bobby’s body was lying in the fields.

They alleged that acid had been poured on the victim’s face and several parts of his body. The family suspected murder and accused the police of attempting to hide the truth. Family members also named six persons in connection with the killing. They alleged that there had been an old rivalry with the accused persons. According to the family, a case had previously been registered against the accused under the SC/ST Act, after which tensions escalated further. They also claimed that Bobby had received death threats and had been attacked three times earlier.

After the incident, police and forensic teams collected evidence from the scene and took the body into custody. On May 27, the family had initially refused to allow the postmortem examination. Later, DSP Satish Kumar Gautam reached the spot and convinced the family members. The postmortem was then conducted by a medical board with videography.

“We have registered a case against six persons. A post-mortem has been conducted by doctors, and family members have been informed about the findings. Now the family members have demanded a second postmortem, so we have sent the body to PGI Chandigarh for a fresh examination,” said Satish Kumar Gautam, DSP Indri.
