TAWAU: A 60-year-old local man driving a Perodua Myvi involved in a crash at Lorong Bintang Shophouse 8, Batu 3 Jalan Apas here Tuesday, tested negative for drugs and alcohol.
Tawau District Police Chief ACP Rosdi Mat Jusoh said the driver underwent a urine screening and breathalyser test at the Tawau District Police Headquarters following the 3.30pm incident.
He said preliminary investigations found the Myvi had crashed into a business premises after the driver allegedly stepped on the accelerator while attempting to leave a parking bay.
“The driver panicked and tried to reverse the vehicle but crashed into a parked Toyota Innova, causing both vehicles to be badly damaged,” he said.
Rosdi said the case was classified as a road accident and investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, while the driver, who had recently received treatment at a nearby clinic, was not injured in the incident.
