KIULU: The opening of the Nabalu Tourism Information Centre on Thursday is set to strengthen Sabah’s rural tourism network, linking key destinations such as Kiulu, Kadamaian in Kota Belud, and Kundasang in Ranau.

Located along the main route to the Kundasang highlands, the centre offers travellers information on community-based tourism and local experiences.

It is the second information hub in the Kiulu constituency, complementing the first one in Kiulu township, as part of a broader effort by the Sabah Tourism Board (STB) to promote sustainable and inclusive rural tourism.

STB chairman Datuk Joniston Bangkuai said the new centre helps visitors discover lesser-known villages, local food, and cultural attractions while generating income for local communities.

Last year, community-based tourism generated RM7 million in revenue across 85 rural attractions in 18 districts, with Kiulu alone recording over 22,000 visitors and RM616,000 in earnings between January and October this year.
