PUTRAJAYA - The Court of Appeal today dismissed Datuk Seri Najib Razak's application to stay his RM2.28 billion 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) corruption trial.
A three-man bench led by Court of Appeal judge Datuk Hadhariah Syed Ismail unanimously made the decision after hearing submissions from the former prime minister's lead counsel Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah and deputy public prosecutor Kamal Baharin Omar as the respondent.
In the judgement, Hadhariah said the panel agreed with the respondent that Najib as the applicant had failed to show special circumstances to justify the grant of a stay.
"The court finds that the application has no merit and therefore it is dismissed," she said.
Also presiding were Court of Appeal judges Datuk Ahmad Zaidi Ibrahim and Datuk SM Komathy Suppiah.
