KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 6 - The residence of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak along Jalan Langgak Duta in Taman Duta has been declared a prison for the imprisonment or detention of persons in lawful custody.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail made the declaration under Section 3 of the Prisons Act 1995.
The official document is set out in the Federal Government Gazette dated today and published on the Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) official portal.
According to the gazette, the declared area covers all buildings and a land area of 4,558.975 square metres at No. 11, Jalan Langgak Duta, situated on Lot 5746, Mukim Kuala Lumpur, the District of Kuala Lumpur.
"In exercise of the powers conferred by Section 3 of the Prisons Act 1995, the Minister declares all buildings and the area measuring 4,558.975 square metres at No. 11, Jalan Langgak Duta, Taman Duta, 50480 Kuala Lumpur, situated on Lot 5746, Mukim Kuala Lumpur, the District of Kuala Lumpur, Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, to be a prison for the purposes of the Act for the imprisonment or detention of persons in lawful custody," it stated.
The declaration takes effect on the date it was sealed, which is today.
Najib has reportedly settled the RM50 million fine imposed on him in the SRC International Sdn Bhd fund misappropriation case at the High Court Criminal Registry today.
The payment is one of the conditions of the conditional pardon granted by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on September 18, allowing Najib to serve the remainder of his prison sentence under house arrest until August 23, 2028.
However, the AGC later said it would temporarily defer the implementation of house arrest for the former prime minister pending further scrutiny and clarification of the interpretation of the Conditional Pardon Order and the effect of the Order of Discharge.
In a statement this evening, it added that throughout the deferment period, Najib should remain at his current place of detention, subject to the powers and directions of the relevant authorities.
