Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has declared Najib’s Jalan Langgak Duta residence a prison under Section 3 of the Prisons Act 1995
KUALA LUMPUR: The residence of former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on Jalan Langgak Duta, Taman Duta, has been declared a prison for the imprisonment or detention of persons in lawful custody.
The declaration was made by Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail under Section 3 of the Prisons Act 1995 [Act 537].
The official document is set out in the Federal Government Gazette dated today and published on the official portal of the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC).
According to the gazette, the declared area covers all buildings and a land area of 4,558.975 square metres at No. 11, Jalan Langgak Duta, situated on Lot 5746, Mukim Kuala Lumpur, District of Kuala Lumpur.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by Section 3 of the Prisons Act 1995 [Act 537], the Minister declares all buildings and the area measuring 4,558.975 square metres at No. 11, Jalan Langgak Duta, Taman Duta, 50480 Kuala Lumpur, situated on Lot 5746, Mukim Kuala Lumpur, District of Kuala Lumpur, Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, to be a prison for the purposes of the Act for the imprisonment or detention of persons in lawful custody,” the gazette stated.
The declaration takes effect on the date it was sealed, which is today.
Najib has reportedly settled the RM50 million fine imposed on him in the SRC International Sdn Bhd fund misappropriation case at the Criminal Registry of the High Court here today.
The payment is one of the conditions of the conditional pardon granted by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on Sept 18, allowing Najib to serve the remainder of his prison sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028.
However, in a statement this evening, the AGC said the implementation of house arrest for the former Prime Minister should be temporarily deferred pending further scrutiny and clarification of the interpretation of the Conditional Pardon Order and the effect of the Order of Discharge.
The AGC added that throughout the deferment period, Najib should remain at his current place of detention, subject to the powers and directions of the relevant authorities.
