FORMER prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak will have to wait longer for a decision on his pardon application after the Pardons Board deferred the matter to a future meeting.
The Legal Affairs Division in the Prime Minister’s Department said the decision was made at the 63rd meeting of the Pardons Board for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya today.
It said Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim had consented to Najib’s application being deferred to a subsequent meeting of the board.
The statement did not give a date for the next meeting or explain the reason for the deferral.
The King also consented to the release of 65 prisoners at today’s meeting.
“All non-Malaysian prisoners released must be repatriated to their respective countries within six months of their release,” the statement said.
Najib is currently serving a six-year prison sentence after his conviction in the SRC International case.
His sentence was reduced from 12 years to six years by the Pardons Board in January 2024, while his fine was reduced from RM210 million to RM50 million.
Today’s decision means there is no fresh ruling on Najib’s pardon application for now, with the matter to be considered at a future meeting of the board. - September 11, 2026
