MALAYSIA is resolute in strengthening its reputation as a trusted investment hub while ensuring local businesses, especially small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), are equipped to thrive in the nation's economic advancement, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim declared today.
Speaking at the closing of the DHL GoTrade Conference 2025 in Kuala Lumpur, Anwar highlighted the government’s ongoing commitment to support domestic enterprises through broadened financial guarantees and funding mechanisms designed to foster innovation, digital transformation, and international competitiveness.
“Our future trajectory must be anchored in technology, sustainability, and inclusiveness,” he asserted. “Digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and automation are no longer mere luxuries; they are vital instruments that will shape competitiveness in the years to come.”
The Prime Minister underscored the mutually reinforcing relationship between SMEs and multinational corporations, noting that the prosperity of one sector depends on the robustness of the other.
He also drew attention to Southeast Asia’s pivotal position in global supply chains, describing the region as a vital manufacturing centre and a rapidly expanding market of 680 million consumers.
“Within five years, ASEAN is expected to become the world’s fourth-largest economy,” he said. “This remarkable growth results from a shared resolve to uphold free and fair trade, whilst harnessing our unique competitive strengths.”
Anwar cautioned, however, that fluctuating tariffs, trade restrictions, and evolving policy landscapes are actively reshaping global supply chains, presenting fresh challenges to the region.
“These uncertainties highlight the critical need for resilience, agility, and strengthened regional cooperation,” he noted.
Reaffirming Malaysia’s dedication to ASEAN’s foundational principles, the Prime Minister called for sustained unity and openness in navigating an increasingly volatile global trade environment.
“In uncertain times, ASEAN must steadfastly uphold the values of openness and solidarity,” he added. - October 21, 2025
