KUNAK: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the launch of Kunak Lipids Sdn Bhd’s Phytonutrient Extraction Plant will enhance Sabah’s standing in the international oleochemical market while creating jobs and boosting local economic growth.

He noted that the facility reflects Sawit Kinabalu Group’s dedication to moving beyond raw commodity production and diversifying operations.

“This aligns with the State Government’s goal to strengthen the palm oil value chain and maintain Sabah’s leadership in high-value downstream sectors,” he said during the plant’s opening ceremony, with his speech delivered by Deputy Chief Minister III cum Works Minister Datuk Shahelmey Yahya.

As Sawit Kinabalu Group Chairman, Hajiji expressed pride in the Group’s production of locally-made tocotrienols branded as Sawit Kinabalu Tocotrienols (SKT3), set for market launch soon.

“This shows Sabah is innovating by transforming palm oil resources into high-tech products,” he said.

He said Malaysia currently imports millions of kilogrammes of Vitamin E annually.

“By producing tocotrienols locally, we reduce import dependency and unlock opportunities in the nutraceutical market while benefiting Malaysian health,” he added.

He said the State Government remains committed to supporting sustainable and innovative investments in palm oil downstream industries.

“This plant will serve as a crucial revenue generator, create skilled employment and solidify Sabah’s position as a regional palm oil downstream hub,” he said.
