National goalie Syihan keeps mum on speculated JDT move

PETALING JAYA – Sensational national goalkeeper, Ahmad Syihan Hazmi Mohamed is keeping mum on his new destination next season despite being hotly linked with a transfer to Super League champions, Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT).

The 26-year-old former Negri Sembilan FC player said until today there are at least three teams that have expressed interest in getting his services.

However, he said the focus is now on the task with the national team that will compete in the Asean Football Federation Cup (AFF) 2022 from December 20 to January 16 next year.

“As for the next destination, I am unable to tell…wait for the decision to be announced (by my future club). I am now focusing on the national team and the AFF Cup.

“I hope to perform even better…to improve my weaknesses. I will give even more than this year,” he said when met at Harimau Malaya’s centralised training camp at Wisma FAM in Kelana Jaya here, today.

At the same time, Syihan is not ruling out the possibility that his talent and potential can be developed to reach the highest level if he is with the right club, but will leave everything to fate.

“For me, we have to choose which one is better and which one can give us more in-depth knowledge so that we can advance our careers. The minutes of the play are important, but it is also up to each of us as well,” he added.

Last Friday, Negri Sembilan announced that Syihan had officially left the club after being with the team in the 2018 season before joining Petaling Jaya City FC and returning to represent the team for this season.

Syihan’s name began to be associated with a move to JDT after performing brilliantly with the national squad, especially when facing Thailand and Tajikistan at the King of Thailand Cup tournament in Chiang Mai in September.

His agility at the four-cornered tournament was widely praised by fans and local football observers to the extent that some thought he deserved to be given the responsibility of being the national team’s main goalkeeper.

That position is now more often held by experienced goalkeeper Mohd Farizal Marlias, but the 36-year-old, who is JDT’s number one goalkeeper, is not listed for the 2022 AFF Cup campaign. – Bernama, December 6, 2022
