National shuttlers receive heroes' welcome at KLIA after World Championships

CHEN Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei were all smiles and beaming with pride when they returned home with the title of world mixed doubles champion.

The two were given a hero's welcome at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport along with women's doubles silver medalist Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah after boarding a flight from France.

The hall at the international arrival area of KLIA echoed with shouts of "Malaysia Boleh" as supporters awaited the players.

More than a hundred guests were present including Minister of Youth and Sports Hannah Yeoh and national sports leadership to celebrate the proud achievement of the two national pairs.

Not to be missed were the family members of the four players who also came to welcome their arrival after playing at the World Championships in Adidas Arena, Paris.

Tang Jie and Ee Wei became the first national players to win a gold medal in the campaign since the first edition in 1977, as did Pearly and Thinaah, who were the first women's doubles to emerge as world runners-up. - September 2, 2025
