
MANILA, Philippines — Officials of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and a security executive at the House of Representatives are the prosecution team's first witnesses during the first week of the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte, which opens on Monday at the Senate, that will be acting as an impeachment court.
In a manifestation filed on July 3, the prosecution said NBI Regional Director Jeremy Lotoc and Senior Agent Mark Calilung and Belinda Bello, House Office of Sergeant-at-Arms Legislative Security Bureau executive director, are scheduled to appear between July 6 and 8 to testify on the allegation that the vice president made grave threats against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Marcos, and former speaker Martin Romualdez. The charge is one of four contained in the Articles of Impeachment against he vice president.
The submission of the names is in compliance with the pre-trial order issued on June 29, which mandates the prosecution to furnish both the Impeachment Court and the respondent the list of witnesses three days prior to the scheduled presentation.
