NBI, police conduct parallel probe into explosion outside DOJ

MANILA, Philippines — The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and the Manila Police District (MPD) conducted parallel investigations into the improvised explosive device (IED) explosion outside the central office of the Department of Justice (DOJ).

The blast, which damaged two parked vehicles, took place around 12:17 a.m. on Monday near the entrance of the DOJ headquarters on Padre Faura Streets, Ermita.

No casualties were reported in the incident as authorities have yet to identify those responsible or establish the motive behind the attack.

The Manila Times was told that personnel from the NBI Forensic Chemistry Division started to process the blast site to determine the type of explosive used and gather evidence.

Reports showed that the explosion damaged two Toyota Innova vehicles parked near the explosion site — a black unit and a silver unit — which sustained visible damage from the force of the explosion.

While the police have secured the area as forensic experts continue collecting and examining evidence, investigators are expected to review physical evidence and other available information as part of the ongoing probe.

Authorities have yet to release further details as the investigation continues.
