
MANILA, Philippines — The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said it expects to complete this week its fact-finding investigation into the drowning of two Ateneo student-athletes, after which it will issue a recommendations on the case.
In a media briefing, NBI Director Melvin Matibag said subpoenas will be served to Ateneo men’s basketball coach Tab Baldwin, team players, and other school officials as part of efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident. He added that the bureau will also summon the resort owner and other concerned agencies.
Matibag said investigators are validating social media posts, witness accounts, and other information gathered to determine what happened.
He clarified that the probe remains at the fact-finding stage.
“All involved parties will be invited and given the opportunity to give their statements,” Matibag said, noting that the bureau aims to complete the investigation swiftly.
He urged witnesses and individuals involved in the incident to cooperate with the investigation, emphasizing that their testimonies are crucial in determining the facts of the case.
