The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Amritsar Zonal Unit, has announced a reward of Rs one lakh to anyone who will share any information regarding the whereabouts of Harmanjit Singh Sandhu, one of the prime accused in the 18-kg drug recovery case.

The NCB had seized 18 kg of drugs on February 15 and named Harmanjit Singh Sandhu, resident of Naushra Dhalla village in Tarn Taran, as one of the main accused’s.

In a public notice on Friday, the NCB stated: “Any person having information regarding the whereabouts, movements, contact details or shelter of the above mentioned accused is requested to immediately inform the officers of NCB, Amritsar Zonal Unit at +91 8278201124. The Identity of the informer shall be kept confidential and a reward of Rs one lakh will be given.”

According to the NCB, Harmanjit was absconding for nearly a four months.

Sandhu’s name surfaced when the bureau had arrested three local men, identified as Jodhbir Singh alias Ranjot Singh, Harpal Singh, and Jasbir Singh, shortly after they collected a consignment of banned substances from the border region in the district.

The NCB had seized a total of 18 kg of contraband from the trio, including nine kg of heroin, six kg of ice and three kg of opium.

The arrested accused, during the interrogation, revealed that the consignments were being picked up by them for Harmanjit and they had been repeating this pattern for the last couple of months.

As soon as the trio was arrested, Haramnajit switched off his phone and is absconding since then.

Sandhu’s key accomplice, Paramjit Singh alias Pamma, the Sarpanch of Tarn Taran’s Kalsian village, was arrested by the NCB in March.

Pamma is considered close to the ruling Aam Aadmi Party, however, the party denies any association with him.

Pamma learnt to have been Kalsian’s village defence committees (VDCs), constituted by the government under the ‘War against Drugs’ campaign to curb drug smuggling cases.

Investigator said that Pamma was harbouring the absconding Harmanjit. His SUV was traced to Pamma’s house in Kalsian village.
