BEAUFORT: The community here is encouraged to venture into agriculture and fisheries to meet the country’s food security needs while reducing dependence on imports from abroad.
Agriculture and Fisheries Assistant Minister Hendrus Anding said this is important as Sabah relies a lot on food imports in the form of agricultural, livestock and fishery products such as rice, fruits, meat and various other freshwater fish products.
Hendrus said the country is blessed with fertile land and sufficient agricultural seeds and various other facilities, in order to produce the same products that are usually imported.
