KUALA PILAH - The Negeri Sembilan government has declared tomorrow (Aug 3) an occasional holiday as a gesture of appreciation to the people of the state and all parties who contributed to the successful conduct of the 16th state election, which concluded yesterday.
Menteri Besar Datuk Ismail Lasim said the decision was made with the consent of the Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir.
"Alhamdulillah, I would like to express my gratitude and appreciation to Tuanku Muhriz for granting His Royal Highness's consent for my appointment as Menteri Besar of Negeri Sembilan.
"In this regard, His Royal Highness has also graciously consented for me to announce this special holiday. Many people are still exhausted, so tomorrow provides an opportunity for everyone to take a break," he told reporters during his first press conference as Menteri Besar after the swearing-in ceremony here today.
Earlier, Ismail, 67, took his oath of office as Menteri Besar before Tuanku Muhriz at Istana Besar Seri Menanti here.
Yesterday's Negeri Sembilan state election results saw Barisan Nasional (BN) secure 18 seats in the State Legislative Assembly, while Perikatan Nasional (PN) won seven seats, thereby enabling the two coalitions to form the state government with a two-thirds majority.
A total of 36 state seats were contested in this election, involving 103 candidates. - BERNAMA
