SEREMBAN – Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Ismail Lasim claims he was forced to sign a proclamation to remove Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir as the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan.

He said a police report had been lodged over the matter to enable the authorities to conduct a full investigation.

According to Ismail, the proclamation was signed against his will and under duress.

"Referring to the issue of the Proclamation Instrument, which has since gone viral, I wish to clarify that I signed the proclamation involuntarily and under duress."

"I lodged a police report at approximately 6pm on Sept 8 to allow an investigation to be carried out by the authorities," he said in a statement on Wednesday.

Ismail said the state government maintains that the proclamation fails to meet the processes and procedures stipulated under Article 10 of the Negeri Sembilan State Constitution 1959.

Consequently, he stressed that the proclamation was null and void, unconstitutional and unenforceable.

"Furthermore, the Negeri Sembilan State Executive Council Meeting No. 5 of 2026, which convened on Sept 8, discussed, among other matters, the establishment of a conciliation committee as a platform to seek a harmonious, prudent and consensus-driven resolution to customary issues.

"At the same time, the state government also refers to Article 71 of the Federal Constitution, which stipulates that the Federation guarantees the rights and status of the Sovereign under the Constitution and must take appropriate measures to ensure the dignity and position of Tuanku Muhriz as the legitimate Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan remains preserved," he said.

Ismail reiterated his full support and unwavering loyalty to Tuanku Muhriz as the lawful Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan.

Sinar previously reported that the palace crisis in Negeri Sembilan was expected to escalate further after the Four Ruling Chiefs (Undang Yang Empat), including the disputed chief, revealed a proclamation alleging the deposition of Tuanku Muhriz as the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, which was said to have been signed by Ismail.

The document was shared with reporters during a press conference at the Tuanku Ja'afar Royal Gallery here on Tuesday night.

The press conference, which began at around 10.45pm, was attended by Datuk Maarof Mat Rashad, Abdul Rahim Yassin, Ruling Chief of Luak Johol Dato' Johan Pahlawan Lela Perkasa Sitiawan, and Datuk Muhammed Abdullah.
