SEREMBAN – Weather conditions were reported to be favourable on nomination day for the 16th Negeri Sembilan State Election (PRN), with proceedings set to take place at eight nomination centres across the state today.
A survey found Election Commission (EC) personnel making final preparations to ensure the nomination process runs smoothly. The process is scheduled to begin at 9am and close an hour later.
Members of the media began gathering at the nomination centres as early as 7am to cover the event, while supporters of political parties gradually arrived to show their support for their respective candidates.
The 36-seat Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly (DUN) was dissolved on June 5, with the EC setting July 28 for early voting and August 1 as polling day.
A total of 889,490 voters are eligible to cast their ballots in the state election, comprising 867,151 ordinary voters, 16,884 military personnel and their spouses, and 5,455 police personnel.
Previously, Pakatan Harapan (PH) announced it would contest all 36 DUN seats, while Barisan Nasional (BN) will field candidates in 25 seats and Perikatan Nasional (PN) in 11.
Parti Orang Asli Malaysia (ASLI), Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) and Parti Barisan Jemaah Islamiah Se-Malaysia (Berjasa) will each contest one seat.
Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) was the last party to announce its participation in the Negeri Sembilan election, opting to contest independently in 24 DUN seats, including two allocated to Parti Bersepakat Hak Rakyat Malaysia (Urimai), whose candidates will use the Bersatu logo.
In the 2023 Negeri Sembilan state election, PH won 17 of the 36 DUN seats, followed by BN with 14 seats and PN with five. — Bernama
