Looking for something to eat in Mont Kiara but not sure where to start? Let this curated neighbourhood food guide lead you to the best cafes and restaurants worth checking out.
If you’ve already ate your way through the cafes and restaurants in Bangsar or Damansara Heights, and perhaps tried nearly every eatery in TTDI — it’s time to venture into another upscale neighbourhood in the northwest of Kuala Lumpur that often goes under the radar. We’re talking about Mont Kiara.
Over the last 20 years, Mont Kiara has evolved into a thriving residential hub, particularly popular among expatriates. A large portion of its community consists of Japanese and Korean residents, who together make up nearly half of the population. It’s no surprise then that Solaris Mont Kiara, one of the main commercial centres in the area, has seen a boom in Korean eateries. In fact, the neighbourhood even has its own Korean supermarket, stocked with ingredients and groceries straight from South Korea.
Mont Kiara is flanked by equally happening areas like Desa Sri Hartamas and Publika – both known for being weekend hotspots. These neighbouring districts are packed with bazaars, artisanal markets, and outdoor dining spots that offer everything from flame-grilled BBQ ribs and classic Ramly burgers to dessert cafes serving artisanal ice cream.
Spend a little time in Mont Kiara, and you’ll soon realise it’s a haven for food lovers – and not just for those craving Korean cuisine. Look beyond the main strips and explore smaller malls like Arcoris Plaza and Sunway 163 Mall, where you’ll find gems like Kopenhagen Coffee and Kenny Hills Coffee Roasters. If you linger until dinner, consider indulging in Indian fine dining at Kumar’s or the rich Thai-Indonesian fusion flavours at The Majapahit.
And of course, no visit to Mont Kiara is complete without trying the array of Korean specialities in Solaris – from sizzling Korean BBQ to dakgalbi. Still undecided on where to eat? This guide to Mont Kiara’s best restaurants and cafes will help you navigate what the neighbourhood has to offer.

Since its opening, Kopenhagen Coffee has been the to-go place for brunch, coffee and homemade cakes. Pop in a brookie (a chewy brownie cookie) into that list too.

On rainy days, a hot bowl of kimchi soup would be the most comforting soul food to have. Head over to Sae Ma Eul for a hearty bowl of Korean stew – choose between sundubu (spicy soft tofu stew) or doenjang jjigae (soybean stew). The Mont Kiara outpost is popular for its barbeque menu recommended by local residents. Besides the usual meat options, try the baby octopus; it will not disappoint.
Don’t forget to order the spicy rice ball that is equally delicious and satisfying as well. Complement your BBQ dinner with some Korean beer or makgeolli (pronounced mahk-oh-lee), which is a native light sparkling rice wine.
