A DISPUTE between two neighbours turned violent this morning when an 80-year-old man was allegedly struck with an iron rod, leaving him with serious injuries.
The victim was hurt in the 9.30am incident in Jalan Perak, Penang, with police receiving a report about 25 minutes later.
Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Rozak Muhammad said the elderly man suffered injuries to his hands and legs and was subsequently taken to Penang Hospital for treatment.
Police have arrested the 62-year-old neighbour in connection with the incident.
An iron rod believed to have been used during the alleged assault was also recovered from the suspect’s house.
Abdul Rozak said preliminary investigations pointed to a misunderstanding between the two men as the possible cause of the altercation.
“The suspect will be remanded tomorrow to assist with further investigations,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code, which covers voluntarily causing grievous hurt using a dangerous weapon or means. – August 23, 2026
