Pride and Prejudice is getting another screen adaptation—this time on Netflix. The novel, written by Jane Austen and released in 1813, has seen many an adaptation, from films and TV series that stay true to the source material to more contemporary movies, like Bridget Jones’s Diary. The tale was retold in the now-iconic 2005 film adaptation starring Keira Knightley and Matthew MacFadyen.

When a classic piece of literature, like Pride and Prejudice, endures through the eras, it means there is always a new generation who has yet to discover the storytelling prowess of Austen for themselves. That must be why Netflix has embarked on this mini-series adaptation, with a number of major stars in its cast.

Most notably, Emma Corrin, of The Crown and Nosferatu fame, takes the leading role of Elizabeth Bennet. Meanwhile, Jack Lowden will star opposite Corrin as the aloof Mr Darcy. Olivia Colman, also from the cast of The Crown, will play Mrs Bennet, Elizabeth’s mother. More recently, the cast was also rounded out with the addition of Rufus Sewell, Freya Mavor, Jamie Demetriou, Daryl McCormack, Rhea Norwood, Siena Kelly, and Louis Partridge.

On their upcoming role as “Lizzie” Bennet, Corrin says, “To be able to bring this iconic character to life, alongside [Colman] and [Lowden], with Dolly [Alderton]’s phenomenal scripts, is truly the greatest honour. I can’t wait for a new generation to fall in love with this story all over again.”

The new adaptation of Pride and Prejudice is led by bestselling author Alderton and director Euros Lyn, with the plot set to roll out over six episodes. According to Netflix’s Tudum, production for the British classic is already well underway, and the series is slated for release later this year or in 2026.
