The neo-Western romance series, which starred Kelly and Josh Duhamel and had been billed as Netflix’s answer to Taylor Sheridan’s hit Yellowstone, was canceled in September after two seasons.

Kelly, 46, addressed the cancelation on the November 3 episode of the Mom’s Car podcast, telling host Dax Shepard: “I felt like we had such a good thing.

“We all love each other so much,” Kelly said, adding that the cancelation was “sad.”

“I don’t understand these things sometimes,” she continued.

Kelly previously spoke about the show’s cancelation, writing on Instagram in September: “Appreciating this little trip down memory lane as we say farewell. All good things must come to an end. And so it is.

“Thank you all for giving us two beautiful seasons! I love you forever my Ransom Canyon family!!”

Duhamel, Kelly’s co-star, has also spoken out about the cancelation.

He told Us Magazine in October: “I thought [it was safe] because the show was No. 1 for almost two weeks and the numbers looked really, really good and people really loved the show.”

Duhamel added that he “was bummed” that the show did “not get picked up” for another season.

“I was a little upset with Netflix for not giving the audience another season, because people really did love the show … but that’s the business,” he continued.

“At the same time, I get it. They have their reasons for why things stay and why things go. I don’t always understand those reasons, but it’s not my job to question. I’ve just gotta move on. I just feel bad for the fans who are really invested in it, and that’s it, unfortunately.”

Based on Jodi Thomas’s book series, the drama followed three ranching dynasties as they battled over land and power in a tight-knit Texas community. In addition to Duhamel and Kelly, the cast also included Lizzy Greene, Garrett Wareing, Marianly Tejada, Jack Schumacher, Casey W. Johnson, Philip Winchester and Justin Johnson Cortez.

Deadline was first to report the show’s cancelation in September, just a few months after the show’s second season aired in July.

Ransom Canyon’s second season underperformed with viewers, drawing 4.1 million views in its first week — a 43 percent drop from the 7.2 million views recorded during the show’s opening week in 2025. It remained in the streamer’s top 10 for just three weeks, down from season one’s four weeks.
