New Forest Green Rovers boss Duncan Ferguson was left floored by a debut defeat to Shrewsbury Town.

Jordan Garrick's wonder strike was cancelled out by two stoppage-time blows. Shrewsbury Town duo Rekeil Pyke and Ryan Bowman flipped the League One encounter on its head with goals in the 94th and 98th-minute.

The late salvo from Salop meant Ferguson was left empty-handed in his first game in charge.

"It hurt," the 51-year-old said speaking to the official Forest Green website. "Believe me it hurt really badly, I thought the team were excellent today, really good, really good performance.

"Organisation, good structure of the team, they never created that many chances, the six minutes overtime - I'm not quite sure where that's come from - it was a disappointing end but an encouraging 94 minutes.

"The team have been conceding late quite a bit this season, I don't think that's part of it. We're so unlucky, so unlucky, just couldn't see the game out.

"I was really pleased with our shape, I think the players showed good application, took the instructions well - I think you saw that with the organisation. I'd like to see a bit more in possession but certainly out of position they done really well and defended the box really well up until the set-play.

"It really was [a good goal] I always thought he had a wee bit of magic in his feet. He was a big threat in the game before he tired late on in the match, a great finish, fantastic goal.

"We've got to be better in possession, got to make sure we play a bit more. We had the one day so we have to work off the ball really as much as we could. I think on the ball we can be better, a bit more positive on the ball, braver, take the ball, keep possession. That would probably be my topic that we work on, finishing, creating chances."
