KOTA KINABALU: Construction on the new two-lane sections of the Pan‑Borneo Highway’s KKOR (Jalan Lingkaran Luar Kota Kinabalu) from Putatan via Berungis to Tuaran — spanning 41.7 km — has reached 80 per cent completion, Bernama reported.

Work on the main stretch from Putatan to Jalan Norowot is expected to be fully completed by March next year, according to the project’s monitoring branch.

Some parts of the route are already open to the public, and once fully operational the road is forecast to ease traffic congestion along the corridor.

The project (which began in December 2019 and has a contract value of RM915.37 million) includes a 19.6 km two-lane link from Putatan to Kionsom/Inanam, a 2.1 km Spur Road to Bukit Padang, five new bridges, four grade-separated interchanges and an elevated U-turn at Jalan Kota Kinabalu–Sindumin.

Beyond road users the development is set to benefit the industrial sector by linking the Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park with nearby industrial zones, and to bolster tourism around Bukit Kokol while also addressing flooding via vehicle box culverts in flood-prone Kolopis.
