So the mobile market has welcomed the first 2nm process node-made SoC, and it is the new MediaTek Dimensity 9600 Pro that powers edge agentic AI through next-gen performance.

On raw compute, the chip uses a 2+3+3 All Big Core layout, pairing two C2-Ultra cores at up to 4.55GHz with six additional performance cores split across two clock tiers. That setup delivers up to 17% better single-core performance and 15% better multi-core performance over the previous generation, while cutting multi-core power consumption by a genuinely striking 61%.

Meanwhile, the dual NPU setup pairs a second-generation Super Efficient NPU, which cuts power use by 40% for always-on tasks, with the more powerful NPU 1090, delivering 51% faster LLM prefill performance and 55% better token generation per watt. It’s also capable of running on-device models up to 30 billion parameters, opening the door to genuinely capable agentic AI features like smart analysis of your data, proactive assistance, and responses that adapt to how you actually use your phone.

All of this is tied together by a new AI Computing Fusion Architecture linking the CPU and NPU, backed by a larger 34.5MB cache and, for the first time on a Dimensity chip, LPDDR6 memory and UFS 5.0 storage.

Gaming gets a solid boost too, courtesy of the new G2-Ultra NX GPU, which delivers up to 27% higher peak performance and 18% faster ray tracing while actually using 24% less power at peak load, enabling console-grade gaming at up to 185fps. MediaTek’s HyperEngine software layer further smooths out gameplay for a more consistent experience.

On the camera side, the new Imagiq 1290 ISP combines with the NPU to unlock some genuinely advanced imaging capabilities, including 60fps NPU-powered motion capture and native 4K240 ultra-slow-motion video, a first for the Dimensity platform, alongside 4K60 AI True Color Tone and 4K120 cinematic log recording.

Alongside the Pro chip, MediaTek also introduced the Dimensity 9600M, a step-down chipset designed to bring flagship-level performance and efficiency to a wider range of phones. It carries over the same Agentic AI Engine and Dimensity Scheduling Engine, along with HyperEngine gaming support up to 185FPS, just tuned for a broader market.

The first phones powered by both the Dimensity 9600 Pro and 9600M are expected to launch this quarter.
