Thousands upon thousands of football fans have made their way to North America this month for the 2026 World Cup.
This year’s tournament will be played across the USA, Mexico and Canada, with the former hosting the lion’s share of the games.
With 48 teams competing in the expanded World Cup in 2026, there are plenty of matches taking place across the day and late into the evening.
But fans who enjoy a drink or two need not worry about finding somewhere to go for alcohol following a late kick-off, at least in New York, after changes to the state’s drinking laws have been made to ensure alcohol can be served until 4am local time.

New York passes temporary law allowing alcohol to be served until 4am during World Cup
The change is only temporary while the World Cup is on, but it will make it much easier for fans to find somewhere to drink.
Previously, depending on where in New York you were, cut-off times ranged from 1am to 3am.
But all venues in the state can now serve alcohol until 4am, with Governor of New York Kathy Hochul explaining the decision in a statement, as quoted by the Daily Mail.
She said: “The World Cup is coming to New York and I want every New Yorker and local business to be part of the action and celebration, no ticket required.
“From the first kick to the last whistle, bars and restaurants across our state can stay open throughout the tournament, bringing New Yorkers together to cheer on every goal and supporting small businesses across the state.”
But while the extended open times are great news for fans, England supporters have already been shocked by alcohol prices in the US.
An image did the rounds on social media recently that showed a ‘premium beer’ cost $18 (around £13.44), while a domestic beer cost $16.75 (around £12.50).
Safe to say that it is slightly more expensive than what English fans are used to paying back home.
